David Sigmond Erdody was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 4, 1925 to Sigmond and Mary Erdody. He passed away peacefully at Providence Park Hospital in Novi, Michigan, on January 8, 2018 at the age of 92. David was under the gentle care of Reverence Hospice.

David was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and father-in-law. Beloved husband of Helen for 61 years. Loving father of Elizabeth (Kevin) Martin. He was extremely proud of his three grandsons, Daniel, Christopher and Jonathan, who lovingly referred to him as "Papa". He and my mother loved going to all their sporting events and piano recitals throughout the years. They even had a "grandparents section" at their high school's soccer games! His family was the most important thing in life to him. He was always encouraging, positive, witty and provided unconditional love to all of us. He always had a smile on his face and saw the good in everyone.

He was also very handy and enjoyed construction & building things ~ whether it was finishing off a basement, working on a project for the house or helping his son-in-law, Kevin build a pantry/closet and shelving in the basement of our old home or installing light fixtures! When we moved into our new home, he loved sitting in the sunroom, (his favorite room!) watching all the construction going on outside. Many times the workers would all wave and come up to the window to chat with him. When he was in the hospital (sadly, multiple times), if the nurses knew he was there, even if he was not their patient, they would make it a point to come and say hello and said he was one of their favorite patients as he always had a smile on his face and made them laugh. He was a good man who always showed kindness and compassion to everyone.

He also loved to watch the wildlife, (sand cranes, blue herons, painted turtles & geese!) near the pond behind our house One in particular, was a white egret that would show up daily and became, "Dad's egret." We are placing an egret iron sculpture under the tree outside the sunroom in loving memory of my sweet father, grandfather & father-in-law.

He was an Army Air Force Veteran who served during WWII and Korean Wars. Following his military career, he had a successful career in the Electrical industry, retiring as a supervisor.

No words can truly describe how we feel ~ however, knowing he is no longer struggling and is in a much better place helps to provide a little comfort.

To my Daddy, I miss your hugs and smiles and going to the pantry to eat chips and nuts even when you weren't supposed to!!! You were the best dad in the world to me and I will love and cherish your memory forever ~ xoxo

Thank you to all of you who have shown such love, caring and affection towards all of us ~ it truly means the world to us and I know my father is smiling down upon you!
