Dale Edward Ward, age 82, passed away suddenly on September 12. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan, in 1934, the middle child of 11 children born to Cletus and Bernice Ward. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Saginaw in 1952. Dale enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952. He served in Germany and Libya repairing the radios in the various aircraft. He ended his military career at Selfridge Air Force base with an honorable discharge in 1960. After the Air Force, Dale worked as a copier machine repairman, then as auto mechanic until 1994.

Dale met Pat Booth through a mutual friend while he was stationed at Selfridge in 1957. He and Pat were married at Grace Lutheran Church in Redford, in 1958. In 1963, they bought a house in Redford, where they lived for 47 years. Beginning around 2006, he took care of Pat during her neurodegenerative illness, until her passing in 2010. Dale and his family began attending St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Farmington Hills, in 1972. He served on the Board of Finance for about 10 years, on the team that faithfully counted the offerings each Monday night. Dale's hobbies included woodworking, coin collecting, and vacationing at their cabin up north where he would go fishing, blueberry picking, and garage-saleing. He also enjoyed talking about history and following current events, spending time with his grandchildren, watching college football games, and fixing the family cars.

Dale was the proud father of Stephen (Cathy) of Gainesville, Florida, and William (Robin) of Livonia. He has seven grandchildren: Stephen II (Waew) of Sugar Hill, Georgia; Heather, of Suwanee, Georgia; and Andrew, Scott, Erik, Heidi and Shannon, of Gainesville, Florida; and great-grandfather to Dylan.
